About Matt

Matt Malley is an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe nominated songwriter who is most recognized for being a founding member and bassist for the rock group Counting Crows.

He retired from Counting Crows after 14 years in December of 2004 to get off the road and pursue a career closer to home as a record producer, session bassist and bass guitar instructor.

Matt's home in Los Angeles was previously owned by legendary record producer Bruce Swedien and Matt now operates out of the custom home recording studio which Bruce had originally built on the property.

He is also a fan of Hindustani Classical Music and is studying the Indian Slide Guitar, or "Mohan Veena".  Matt is a student and friend of Grammy winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and when chance brings them together, Matt is either learning from his music "guru" or recording Bhatt's guitar in his home studio.  In April of '07 Matt got to spend a week taking lessons with V.M. Bhatt at his home in Jaipur, India.  "It's like Jedi training for a musician", says Matt.
